Many fragrant plants and flowers give the garden olfactory notes that awaken our senses and pleasure a little more.
If the scent of lily of the valley is only revealed through the nose, others are spread at a distance, such as the lilac or the Mexican orange or nearby, such as the mimosa .

The fragrant climbers
The foot in the shade, the head in the sun, at the foot of a wall or on a balcony. Such is the clematis . Among them, Clematis armandii spreads a sophisticated scent with notes of almond. Prune it after flowering.
The best known, the Chinese wisteria ( Wisteria sinensis ) is mauve or white (‘Alba’), with an intense fragrance. It blooms abundantly in May and summer, and enjoys full sunshine.
- The honeysuckle of the woods
Planted in mid-shade, this honeysuckle vigorous is generous in fragrant flowers. The variety Lonicera japonica gives white flowers from June to October and can be grown in pots (sun or half-shade).

Scented night flowers
Its yellow or pink flowers do not open until late afternoon and give off notes of jasmine. The belle-de-nuit ( Mirabilis jalapa ) loves the sun, but requires a rich and well watered soil: indispensable fertilizer during flowering!
White or mauve, this perennial ( Hesperis matronalis ) does not live long, but is easily resealed. From May to June, its tall stems produce flowers whose fragrance, when evening comes, evokes that of jasmine.
The easy plants
Ideal for poor and stony soils, the wallflower ravenelle ( Erysimum cheiri ) exhales a powerful perfume and embellishes the walls with its vivid colours.
Nicknamed “catnip”, the catnip ( Nepeta cataria ) attracts tomcats thanks to its aromatic leaves. The wallflower gives off a delicious scent. These two rustic people love the sun. As for the cosmos chocolate ( Cosmos atrosanguineus ), it is sought after for its light cocoa odor.
Daphne, jasmine, buddléia (the butterfly tree), viornes … There are many shrubs with exceptional scents. Between the typical scents of roses centifolia and damascena There are many nuances in the hybrid varieties. Very floriferous, remontant and resistant, the variety ‘Martin des senteurs ®’ is distinguished by orange flowers with a fruity fragrance.
